Guide to Embedding Social Media Posts on Your Blog
Would you like to use readily available and public online content? Not just any content – content posted by authorities in your market that is both valuable and useful for your readers. Imagine if this embeddable content was so easy to use, all you had to do was copy and paste a URL. Think of the potential this would have for your online marketing…
All of the above is true. In this post, you’re going to get the rundown on how to embed content from places like…
- YouTube
- Google+
While content is easy to embed, not all the content is embeddable. For you to use other people’s posts, the posts have to be public.
What Is Embedding?
Embedding is a way to link objects from other websites. When the source of the linked object updates or changes, it automatically updates on all embedded locations.
For example, below is an embedded video from YouTube.
www.youtube.com/embed/rOyZojbYUEA
If you use WordPress, all you have to do to embed a social media on your site is to link the URL. For example, to show the video we used the URL shown in the picture.
Once you use the URL above on a line in your blog, the media will display. This works for any social media site that WordPress supports – including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and YouTube.
How to Find the URL of a Google+ Post
Google+ is a great place to find pictures and information for your blog. The beauty in using Google+ content is you can comment directly in the window. For example, see how you can leave comments for this beautiful – and scary – picture.
Linking a full Google+ post requires you to get the URL. You can see how to do this by referring to the picture below.
There is also another way to get the URL of a social media post: clicking on the time and date.
Clicking on the date takes you to the URL of the post. Clicking on the date to get the URL works for every social media site I’ve come across. If for some reason it does not work for you, let us know in the comments.
Let’s show you how to get the URL of a Facebook post and show it on your blog.
How to Embed Facebook Posts
Social media sites, like Facebook, love it when you embed content because you help them reach more users. Embedding content from Facebook is a lot like embedding content from Google+. See the picture below to know where to guide your mouse pointer.
When you click on the time, your web browser will direct you a page dedicated to that one update. Clicking the URL, and copying and pasting it on your WordPress blog, will have the following effect:
Isn’t it beautiful? You can also interact, like, and follow the linked Facebook media. Feel free to test this by liking the above post. 😉
How to Embed Tweets
Embedding a tweet is a lot like embedding a Facebook or Google+ post. The picture below shows where you can find the “Embed Tweet” option.

Now That You Know How to Embed…
Have fun doing it! Embedding content from social media allows you to use multiple types of media on your website. Use it to build your own social media presence, as well as share content related to your business.
Just one small warning about using embedded content: you are not in control of it. If for any reason the source decides to delete the post, or change his or her privacy settings, the embedded content will not show on your site.
