See below for Lee’s article as she shares 4 style tips to look and play the part at your next event this fall.
To prepare for an event you make sure your business cards are perfect and you have compelling marketing materials, but too often you’ll forget about your most powerful marketing tool—YOU!
Before your next event check out these easy ways to sell yourself and your company at your next event.
1. Look the Part
What you say portrays you as an expert but what you wear helps you sell yourself before you even have a chance to say anything. If your company helps people stay on the cutting edge of technology you must dress in a modern way. Imagine taking technology advice from someone dressed like they walked right out of the 80’s. You’d have to wonder what decade the information is from.
2. Dress Up
Even though you are out of the office you can’t dress like you’re on vacation. Many events and trade shows are known for being very casual but shorts and tees aren’t going to get you business. If you’re attending a casual event think business casual. Men can wear khakis or dark denim jeans with a button down shirt and jacket. Women can stick with chic dresses, or trouser jeans and a fun blouse. The point of attending an event is to talk to people and get noticed. Your wardrobe is a great tool to help you stand out from the crowd.
3. Pack Smart
Prepare for your next event by packing smart. Sit down with your event itinerary and create a packing chart. Think about every possible scenario you might encounter and use your packing chart to ensure you have everything you need. If you’ll be having dinner with clients one evening after the event be sure to plan for it. If you know you won’t have time to return to the hotel and change consider bringing accessories that can change your look from day to night.
4. Sweat the Details
During any event you’ll find yourself carrying around a lot of stuff. Walking around holding strewn about papers and business cards is not a professional look. Be sure to bring a bag that can hold everything you will need during the event. Ladies, choose a great day bag in a neutral color. Also be sure to use this as your purse so you don’t walk around looking like the bag lady. Men, choose a simple briefcase or leather bound notebook that can hold everything you’ll need for the day.
